Hello everyone! How are you doing?
Today I want to talk about something I think about a lot — Kaizen. It means improvement. Change for the better.
When Things Are Not Working
When you feel like things are not going well, there is usually one reason.
You are holding on too tight to something.
"This is the right way." "This is how it should be." We focus so much on what we think is correct — and that, I believe, is where unhappiness begins.
Movement Is Everything
In Japanese, the word for exercise is 運動 (undō).
写真 — 運 means "luck" or "fortune." 動 means "to move."
So exercise literally means — moving your luck.
Think about that for a second.
Our bodies never stop moving. The heart keeps beating. We breathe in, breathe out. 24 hours a day, everything inside us is in circulation.
Life works the same way.
What Does Real Freedom Mean?
Americans love freedom. It's one of the most important values in this country.
But what does real freedom actually mean?
Having more options? More money? More choices?
I think real freedom is something different.
Real freedom is not getting stuck. It's staying in motion. Not clinging to one idea of how things should be. Flowing, circulating, keep moving forward.
That is freedom to me.
1mm Every Day
Calligraphy taught me this.
When I practice every day — even just a little — I slowly get better. Sometimes I don't feel the progress. But then one day I look back and think, wow, I improved without even noticing.
Different angles of thinking start to open up. New ideas come. Things I never thought of before start to appear.
The key is not to do a lot all at once. It's to do a little, every single day.
1mm. Every day. Don't stop.
Not For Anyone Else
One more thing I want to say.
Improvement is not something you do to impress someone. Not for praise. Not for validation.
Do it to make your own life richer.
Change the purpose. When you do it for yourself — not for someone else's approval — something shifts inside you.
Balance, Not Just Happiness
Most people chase happiness.
But I think what really matters in life is balance. Circulation. Keeping things moving.
Happiness and difficulty. Light and shadow. All of it together.
That is a full life.
What is something you keep doing every day — not for anyone else, but for yourself? I would love to hear in the comments below.

改善 (Kaizen) "Improvement" / "Change for the better."
One small step every day. That's all it takes.
